About the Role Sefapcol Ltd is seeking skilled and passionate Agronomists to lead the planning, execution, and oversight of agricultural activities across our farm projects. You will play a key role in establishing high-yield demonstration farms, enhancing soil and crop health, and implementing sustainable, climate-resilient farming techniques. This role is vital to our mission of empowering farmer clusters and improving agricultural productivity in Nigeria. Key Responsibilities Farm Establishment & Crop Management Lead the setup and management of demonstration farms and greenhouses. Develop and implement agronomic best practices across a variety of crops, including oil palm, cassava, cocoa, plantain, and vegetables. Oversee land preparation, planting schedules, and crop rotation plans. Monitor crop growth stages and ensure timely interventions. Conduct regular soil testing and recommend improvement strategies. Identify and control pests and diseases using sustainable solutions. Implement water-efficient irrigation and conservation techniques. Farmer Support & Training Build the capacity of SEFAPCOL interns through practical training, tailored input selection, and seasonal crop management advice. Translate complex agronomic research into simple, actionable techniques. Train and mentor agronomist interns and field assistants on best farming practices and safety protocols. Track and report on training impact for each cohort. Input & Resource Management Provide technical guidance on the selection and safe application of seeds, fertilisers, and agrochemicals (including organic options). Collaborate with agro-dealers and extension agents to ensure timely access to quality farm inputs. Data Collection & Analysis Collect and manage field data, including yield records, soil conditions, pest infestations, and weather patterns. Submit comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly reports on farm performance. Utilise digital tools and platforms to log data, analyse trends, and optimise practices. Sustainability & Innovation Drive adoption of climate-smart agriculture and regenerative techniques such as composting and precision farming. Contribute to innovation pilots involving mechanisation, seed trials, and optimised fertiliser application. Farmer Relationship Management Serve as a reliable liaison between Sefapcol, field staff, and rural farmers. Handle field complaints related to agricultural inputs, extension support, or crop failures with professionalism and empathy. Requirements & Qualifications B.Sc.Hnd or M.Sc. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Extension, or a related field. 2–5 years of hands-on experience in farm operations or agricultural extension. Proficiency with farm management software and data collection tools. Fluency in local languages and the ability to translate agronomic terms to rural farmers is a strong advantages. Excellent interpersonal, training, and communication skills. Demonstrated passion for agriculture, innovation, and rural development. Working Conditions Frequent travel to farms and rural locations within the state and beyond. Fieldwork involves exposure to various weather and environmental conditions. Occasional travel for workshops, training, and supervision across multiple regions. Why Work With Us?
